Description

Santa Maria del Pi is a 14th century Gothic cathedral in Barcelona. The cathedral is located on the Plaza del Pi in the Gothic Quarter. There is evidence that the early Christian church of 413 existed in this place. On October 28, 1928, Pope Pius XI conferred on the church the title of Little Papal Basilica. The building of the cathedral has a rectangular shape in plan (the large nave is 54 meters long). Adjacent to the cathedral is the octagonal bell tower, 54 meters high. The walls of the bell tower at the base are 3.55 meters thick.nIn 1931, the cathedral was declared the national cultural heritage of Catalonia.
