Description

The Astronomical Observatory of Brera is an astronomical observatory founded in 1764 by Jesuits in the Palace of Brera. Included in the National Institute of Astrophysics. The observatory was founded by the Order of Gumiliates. In planning the construction of the observatory took part Boshkovich, Ruger Josip. In 1773, the Jesuit Order was disbanded, and the observatory became subordinate to the state. At the beginning of the 20th century, the conditions for observation in Milan gradually began to deteriorate, so in 1923 a new observatory was founded in Merat, Lecco province – the Merat Astronomical Observatory.
