Description

The German Opera in Berlin was founded in 1912 as the opera house of the city of Charlottenburg, called the German Opera House, and opened with the production of Ludwig van Beethoven’s opera Fidelio. The new building of the German Opera was built by 1961 according to the design of Fritz Borneman and opened on September 24 – but this time by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Don Juan. Another Mozart performance of the German Opera, which went down in history, took place on June 2, 1967: this evening they gave The Magic Flute in the presence of the Shah of Iran Mohammed Reza Pahlavi who was in West Berlin on an official visit, and was killed one of the demonstrators, student Benno Onezorg, which led to the radicalization and split of the German student movement.
