Description

The German Pavilion – the exhibition pavilion of the Weimar Republic at the international exhibition, held in the Catalan capital of Barcelona from 1929 to 1930. Designed by German modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.nThe pavilion was located at the foot of Montjuic on the main axis of the exhibition, to the right of the large fountain and the main staircase leading to the pavilion of Spain. There were no enclosed rooms or doors in the pavilion. The center of the whole composition was Morning carved from green marble by sculptor Georg Kolbe. At the insistence of Mies van der Rohe, no exhibits were located in the pavilion – the pavilion itself was an exhibit. After the exhibition was closed in 1930, the pavilion was dismantled and sent to Germany, where it disappeared without a trace. In 1980, the Barcelona authorities decided to restore the pavilion in its original form.
