“House of Peter I” was probably erected at the end of XVII century, during the period of active stone construction in Kyiv, in the estate, which since 1663 belonged to the famous Kyiv merchant family of the Bykovsky.nIn 1791, by decision of the magistrate, in the former Bykovsky building a “strait-house” was placed – a territory of isolation of drunks and rowdy, as well as crazy people. In 1799 a well-known composer Artemy Vedel, who was declared by the government as a madman, was detained there until 1803. “House of Peter I” – brick, plastered, asymmetrical in composition, designed for review from all sides. The building consists of several rooms connected enfiladely, entrances – from the north and south, its northeast tower is occupied by twisted steps. The building gives a variety of facades.
