Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

Ideas and plans for the creation of this memorial complex appeared in 1988. The very idea of erecting a memorial belongs to the Berlin publicist Lee Roche, who organized in 1989 a special construction fund “Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe”. The memorial was opened in 2005. It is a huge field of more than 2,700 gray slabs. The passages between the plates are made too narrow in order to walk along them with somebody, but left alone, the visitor begins to experience a complex range of feelings
