Ideas and plans for the creation of this memorial complex appeared in 1988. The very idea of erecting a memorial belongs to the Berlin publicist Lee Roche, who organized in 1989 a special construction fund “Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe”. The memorial was opened in 2005. It is a huge field of more than 2,700 gray slabs.
