Description

Monument to Orange, which saved Odessa, – established in Odessa, a bronze monument dedicated to a historical event – delivery in February 1800 of 3000 fresh Greek oranges from the port of Odessa to St. Petersburg as a gift from Odessa to Emperor Paul I. The monument is an orange mounted on a pedestal with a peel removed from one half and with several slices taken out. Instead of these slices, a figure of the Russian Emperor Paul I is inserted inside the bronze fruit. The sculptural composition includes three horses harnessed to an orange.
