The Silk Museum was founded in Tbilisi in 1887 by a famous specialist and researcher of silk Nikolay Shavrov with the aim of acquainting with the silk-growing industry in the Caucasus. The exhibition presents more than 5,000 varieties and types of cocoons, silkworm caterpillars and butterflies, as well as samples of mulberry plants, natural and synthetic dyes, a wide range of silk products and much more.
