Description

Tbilisi Circus is a cultural institution in the capital of Georgia on Heroes Street. The building is executed in the style of Stalinist architecture. Currently, there are performances by artists from different countries, most often these are Russian, Ukrainian and French troupes. The Georgian circus dates back to pagan times. One of its varieties, in which there were elements of the circus, was “Keenoba.” Such a name used to belong to a mass popular spectacle related to the agricultural cult and the deity of fertility. After some time, it lost its religious content and became an exclusively theatrical spectacle, expressing the struggle of the people of Georgia against the invaders.
