Colombia receives 22 tourism nominations worldwide

The Colombia tourism experiences they stand out globally. Its cultural wealth, fauna and flora and the diversity of landscapes and climates are tourist attraction for thousands of people.

For that reason, the country as a destination and seven Colombian cities seek to win 22 categories of the South American version of the World Travel Awards (WTA), the most prestigious awards of the travel industry internationally.

The 11 nominations highlighted as a destination leader in several product segments and tourist Destination as Leader of South america, the Fate of Nature, Adventure Destination, Destination, Culture, Destination, Cruise, Destination, Green, Target, Whale-Watching, Target Youth, Culinary Destination, Destination LGBT and Best Promotion Agency, where Colombia won these last three categories in the version 2020.

Also, cities of the country received other nominations: Barranquilla, Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín, and Cali are in the category City Cultural Leader; Barranquilla, Bogota and Medellin are in the category Destination for Events/Festivals and Destination for Meetings and Conferences; Barranquilla, Cali and San José del Guaviare as a Tourist Destination Pop-up, Bogotá as a City Leader, Bogotá and Medellín as a Business Travel Destination and Fate of Urban Getaway; Cartagena as a Honeymoon Destination and Romantic Destination; Cali as a Destination for Sports Tourism; and San Andrés Playa Leader.

Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia, said that ” these nominations confirm why Colombia is becoming a competitive tourist country worldwide and that our reactivation strategy that contemplates keeping the country current is bearing fruit. Since 2007 our country and its destinations have received 90 nominations in the world and South America editions of the World Travel Awards, of which 29 have been won for the South American version. This year we are going for more and that is why we invite everyone to join us in voting on the official website of these awards”.

In this 2021 edition of the WTA,hotels, airports, travel agencies, tourist attractions, local promotion agencies and ports in Colombia have also received 19 nominations.

Voting will be open to the public until 26 July. Here you can access the page and vote for your favorite destinations.

These awards were created in 1993 to reward tourism excellence not only in a global version, but also in all regions of the world.

That is why 2020 has been joined by Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Indian Ocean, Middle East, North America, Oceania and South America, and has included the Travel Technology version included since 2003. In addition, in 2020, more than 2 million votes were registered, a record number in the 28-year history of the WTA.
