How to get vaccinated against covid – 19 in New York?
New York is very close to being the city that never sleeps again. Recently, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the full reopening of the city for July 1 and, although it is still more than a month to date, the capital of the world is already returning to its accelerated pace and the streets begin to fill with tourists from around the world.

This is due, in large part, to the other announcement made by the president about offering vaccines to tourist visit attractions and landmarks such as Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge or Central Park.
“This summer, tourism will come back to life in New York City and many jobs will be recovered as a result. We want to go the extra mile, make it easy for tourists”, say. “If you’re here, get vaccinated while you’re here. It makes sense to put mobile vaccination posts where tourists are.”

The measure is already being implemented in the city. For example, from May 12 to 16, initially in some subway stations such as Penn Station and Grand Central, there will be free vaccination a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, according to the governor of this state, Andrew Cuomo. “Let’s try what happens…We will see the receptivity and adjust it if necessary”he said at a press conference.
However, according to my experience added to that of other tourists, in different places in Manhattan it is already possible to get the vaccine. In my case, the same day I arrived in New York, in the afternoon, I entered the city’s vaccine location website vaccinefinder.nyc.gov
When I entered the zip code of the place of my accommodation, more than 10 vaccination stations located less than a mile away appeared. Most people said ” walk up vaccination.” They also showed which vaccine they had available so I decided to walk to a drugstore to try.

Upon arrival, the only requirement they requested was to show an identity document, in this case my passport and give the address of my accommodation in the United States. What vaccine do you want? Asked the woman at the check-in point. After 10 minutes I had been vaccinated and with the vaccine I chose. It was an easy, fast and cost-free process.
Most city centers are open to walk-ins. On the other hand, according to several local media, the city is offering incentives to boost the immunization campaign such as free subway or train trips or tickets to tourist places such as museums because the number of Americans who get the vaccine against covid-19 has been reduced in recent weeks and, New York, is no exception.

What to keep in mind if you are traveling to get vaccinated:
“If you’re here, get vaccinated while you’re here. It makes sense to put mobile vaccination posts where tourists are.”
1. Budget
My first suggestion is that you consider your budget. Announcements by U.S. authorities to vaccinate tourists have boosted demand for airfare to New York and other U.S. destinations such as Miami. On the other hand, depending on the area of Manhattan there are hotels with more favorable prices than others such as those located near Wall Street. Also, don’t forget to add to your budget the costs of Covid-19 testing to leave or enter the country and transfers to and from the airport. On the other hand, international insurance is highly recommended.

2. Walk-in vaccinations
As mentioned above, most New York City vaccination booths are open for walk-ins. The only requirement is a physical identity document. That is to say that in the case of tourists it must be the passport. Be sure to check the location of the vaccination centers, if they require any other requirements and the hours of operation to the public.
3. Choosing the type of vaccine
Unlike a few weeks ago, at this time in some places in the Big Apple it is possible to choose the type of vaccine. Keep in mind that tourists are offering the Johnson & Johnson which is a single dose. But there are cases of tourists who have opted for the modern or Pfizer and have had to stay the necessary time or return to the United States for the second dose.

4. Time for post-vaccine rest
Although each organism may or may not have different side effects, vaccination stations recommend rest after vaccination. Once you put it on, you should wait 15 minutes in place to make sure it feels good. Subsequently, rest is also recommended. Keep this in mind in case your trip itinerary includes going to tourist places or if the priority of the trip is the vaccine.
5. Continue with security protocols
Remember that your body needs time to develop protection after ANY vaccine, so it is important to continue taking care of yourself and others with mask use and social distancing.
