The best campsites in Spain and Europe

The pandemic (and confinement) has made us rethink how we travel. We no longer think of vibrant European capitals, exotic destinations in Southeast Asia or routes through idyllic landscapes of the Southern Hemisphere. For months we have been focusing on our villages, national parks, beaches and Islands: we have plenty of arguments to travel without leaving Spain.

For all those who are thinking of organizing a getaway as soon as possible, we propose a selection of rural accommodations with a lot of charm and reasonable prices, from a indiana House in the Asturian West to an eighteenth century palace in Mlaga.

Each of them has its own style but all share the care for the detail, the attention friendly owners and a privileged location in villages and natural places that invite us to enjoy the outdoors and the good weather.

HOUSE OF THE PACA (CUDILLERO, ASTURIAS)

We start this selection of charming rural hotels in La Casona De La Paca, a classic of Western Asturias. It is a nineteenth century Indian palace built in Cudillero by an emigrant who went to Cuba and, on his return, this villa was built with his mother’s name. Its current owner, Montserrat Abad, bought it 23 years ago and decorated its 19 rooms (and several apartments in the old blocks) keeping its colonial style. A tip: If the da allows it, breakfast based on homemade pastry it should be taken in the garden, in the shade of centuries-old trees. Rates: from 88 euros. / You can book here.

SOHO BOUTIQUE HOTEL, SPAIN)

There are still cities in Spain where time does not exist, with streets, squares, palaces and viewpoints that were stopped at some point in the nineteenth century. Round it’s one of those cities. In one of its most emblematic neighborhoods stands this eighteenth century building with a spectacular stone facade and the coat of arms of one of its former owners. The hotel, perfect for a romantic getaway, is full of charming corners: from the library to the typical Andalusian patio or a small cinema room with red velvet seats from the old Ronda cinema.
