Description

The cultural center in the Tiergarten district of Berlin between Potsdamer Platz and the Landwehr Canal. Berlin Art Gallery was built in 1992-1998. It was built up in the 1950s and 1960s at the edge of West Berlin, after most of the once unified city’s cultural assets had been lost behind the Berlin Wall. As a result of the development of the territories around Potsdam Square after the unification of Germany, the Kulturforum found itself in a completely new architectural environment and was repeatedly criticized as ultimately an unfortunate example of modernist urban architecture.
