Description

Beyazyt Square is located on the site of the Byzantine Square, which was built in 393 during the reign of the Roman emperor Theodosius I. In the center of this square were built triumphal arches, decorated with headdresses and a huge fountain. Later, the Byzantines expanded the area and renamed it to Theodosius Square. From these buildings until today, only a few fragments of stone blocks and columns of the arch remained.nThe modern name of the square was built during the reign of Sultana Bayazida II in 1500-1506.
