Description

The German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst is a museum of the history of the Second World War, located in the Karlshorst area of Berlin. Until the end of World War II, the building housed a fortification school for Wehrmacht sappers. The museum is located in the building of the officers’ club, where on the night of May 8 to 9, 1945 they signed the Act on the unconditional surrender of the German armed forces, which marked the end of the Great Patriotic War and World War II in Europe. The museum exhibits tell about the war on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945, and also reveal the history of Soviet-German relations before the Second World War. The documents cover the post-war relations of the Soviet Union with the GDR and with the Federal Republic of Germany. The centerpiece of the permanent exhibition is the former banquet hall, where the surrender document was signed.
