The main memorial to victims of war and tyranny in Germany. The project for the building of Neue Wache, the main creation of German classicism, was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel.nThe Neue Wache building was built under Prussian King Frederick William III in 1816-1818 as a guardhouse for the royal guards, and at the same time as a monument to the fallen in the Napoleonic wars.nIn 1931 the building was rebuilt according to the project of Heinrich Tessenov in a monument to the fallen in the First World War.nAfter almost complete destruction during World War II, the building was restored within three years as a memorial warning of the memory of victims of fascism and militarism.
