Description

The historic building in the center of Berlin, named after its red brick facade. It was built in 1861-1869 in the style of semi-renaissance semi-classical designed by the architect G. F. Wesemann. The height of the quadrangular tower of the town hall, built in the image and likeness of the towers of the Lanesque Cathedral, is 74 meters.nDuring World War II, the building was destroyed; restored in the years 1951-1958 with changes in the interior. On the ground floor there are Armorial and Column halls that perform representative functions.nAfter the restoration, the Berlin City Hall and the East Berlin Berlin Magistrate were located in the Red Town Hall. Since October 1, 1991, the building houses the seat of the government (Senate) of the united state of Berlin. The office of the ruling burgomaster (mayor) of the city is also located here.
