The Netherlands is a small country, often called Holland, famous throughout the world for its cheese, tulips, porcelain, canals and excellent artists, wooden shoes and mills. The first archaeological evidence of the presence of an ancient person in the territory of present-day Netherlands refers to the Lower Paleolithic (about 800 thousand years ago). They were engaged in hunting and gathering.
