Up to 19 wooden statuettes of pre-Hispanic civilization Chimú were discovered in Chan Chan, the largest mud city in America, capital of this pre-Inca empire that dominated the Peruvian north coast between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, announced the Ministry of culture of Peru. These idols date from more than 750 years ago and were found by a group of researchers who carry out excavations to recover the archaeological remains of Chan Chan, located in the Northern Region of La Libertad, and considered one of the most important vestiges of ancient Peru.
The Peruvian city was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986.

“Thanks to the fact that it possesses exceptional universal values and that it provides a unique testimony about a disappeared civilization”, according to the official website of the brand Peru, the Archaeological Complex was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986.
During the presence of the Indigenous chimú in the area, Chan Chan developed its economy and urbanism to a great level; however, it was conquered by the Incas and later sacked by the Spaniards.

The center of this city consists of ten walled citadels, in which it is estimated that about 30 thousand people lived. In this area there are walls decorated with geometric figures and animals in high relief, as well as popular neighborhoods, walls, sidewalks, canals and cemeteries.
“During the tour you will discover the vestiges of one of the older cultures of Peru, ” says the country’s tourism portal.
